The reasons why you shouldn’t sink to social networking sites
The phenomenon of social networking indeed is booming today, almost everyone has a Facebook or Twitter account. Indeed, social networking sites have many functions and benefits, with the facilities they provide, you can find old friends, share photos with your friends, expand friendship, and even expand your business. But problems begin to occur when you can’t limit your involvement in these social networking sites, and ultimately it leads to addiction. This addiction not only consumes your time, but also blurs the boundary between cyberspace and the real world. Before you sink deeper, it helps if you realize the reasons why you shouldn’t sink to social networking sites.
You are sharing too much personal information
Not just when you created the account, but also when you start to actively using the social networking sites. At the beginning you will give your personal data such as date of birth and email address, once you become an active member on the sites, you will begin to share photos, personal life, and even your love story. You should be wise in using these social networking sites, all the words you write will be visible for many people, and can cause various reactions. What you should remember is the social media sites are not your personal diary, so you must be good at picking up things that can be shared to public, and which ones you should keep for yourself.
Blurring between the real world and the cyberspace
Basically, the social networking sites were made to bring you closer to your friends, even to friends who are in faraway place. But the phenomenon that often occurs this time is, you feel close to people who are far away, but feel far from the people who are close to you (spouse, child, and parents). The addiction of social networking sites have blurred between the real world and the cyberspace. You still feel lonely even though have been accompanied by your spouse, and this loneliness will trigger you to vent your feelings into social networking sites.
You should be able to think wiser, if you feel lonely even though have been accompanied by your spouse; it means that there is something wrong with the communication between you and him. Instead of bringing the problems to public area, it will be better if you start to open two-way communication with your spouse, and try to reawaken the warmth between you and him.
Lack of gratitude
Sinking in the social networking sites can also make you become someone who’s not grateful. You start to compare your life with the lives of other friends. This of course will adversely affect your psychological state. If you are not able to control these feelings, you will feel that your life is less fortunate than the lives of your friends. You are busy chasing something that you haven’t gotten, but forget about the beautiful things that you actually already have. Don’t be too busy reading your friend’s wall; you better get busy yourself on positive things that are more useful.
The return of the past or the arrival of someone new
It’s not a secret if social networking sites can make you meet someone in the past, someone special who has ever filled your life. If you both are still single of course this won’t become a problem, but problems will arise if you both have had a couple, the inability to control the feelings will bring you to infidelity.
Vice versa, the presence of new person who seems more attractive than your spouse can lead you to having an affair. The affair that’s conducted in social networking sites is considered more secure and difficult to be tracked. But no matter how good you are trying to hide the affair, there’s a time when the affair will be revealed.
You can make friends with anyone in the social networking sites, but you should also be aware of the limitations that you must still obey. When there is a temptation from the past or from a new person you know, remind yourself to the commitment you’ve made with your partner. Keep yourself away from the temptation that might destroy the relationship that has been built for years.
Lead to stalkers
You have to be aware; stalkers may pop up in social networking sites, especially if you often write daily activities on your wall. To avoid bad things, don’t write something that’s related to regular activities, limit the personal information, and don’t easily trust someone new that you meet in the social networking sites.
