Melancholic vs. depression
Melancholy is the name for someone’s nature, while depression is a state, condition, or psychiatric disorder. Actually, melancholy and depression is still in a straight line. The thicker the melancholy nature you have, the bigger the risk to get depression. The point is, someone who is melancholy is not always having depression, the depression has stronger characteristic than just melancholic.
Situation: In socializing
Melancholy: She can still get along with others, she is not always sad or gloomy, although she has soft feeling, but she is still able to interact with others.
Depression: She has difficulty to get along with others. She tends to get angry easily, sad, Irritable, restless, and impatient.
Situation: Seeing the misfortune of others
Melancholy: She is easy to sympathize with people who are being crushed by misfortune. She is able to feel what others feel, but still able to control herself. She is easily touched than people who have cheerful nature, dominant, or cold.
Depression: She sympathizes deeply; she is often lost in the suffering and grief.
Situation: In work
Melancholy: She is careful and makes mature preparation. Her worries encourage her to always be careful in every action she does.
Depression: She has difficulty to concentrate and think clearly, her mind is always focused on the things that make her stressful, this can happen for long time.
Situation: Dealing with personal problems
Melancholy: Even though she feels depressed, but she is still able to think systematically. Moreover, the melancholy person is known as a systematic worker.
Depression: Very emotional, prone to explode (angry or crying), she has difficulty to control her emotions and easily dragged into prolonged gloomy.
Situation: Looking at the future
Melancholy: Having hopes and ideals, she prepares everything systematically and carefully to reduce the unwanted risk.
Depression: Thinking negatively about the future. She is not motivated or doesn’t have a desire to start activities, and even reluctant to get out of bed due to loss of spirit.
Situation: The physical condition
Melancholy: Normal like most people, she is able to take care of herself.
Depression: Due to loss of motivation and a clear mind, she tends to look unkempt, she doesn’t have the will to take care of herself.
